Patrick Lavon Mahomes II is the son of former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes, who played for the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates.
As a standout student-athlete at Whitehouse High School in Texas, Mahomes II was skilled not only on the American football field but also shined playing baseball and basketball. Mahomes initially played both college football and baseball at Texas Tech University before committing to focus solely on gridiron pursuits following his sophomore year.
Mahomes was a highly sought-after name during the 2014 Major League Baseball draft, however his commitment to Texas Tech is what kept him from being selected early. Despite this fact, he was still chosen by the Detroit Tigers in round 37 - although ultimately deciding not to sign with them afterwards.
During the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine, Mahomes quickly became the hottest quarterback prospect. With some of the most impressive throws ever seen at an NFL combine - clocked at 60 mph and tying Logan Thomas and Bryan Bennett's record - plus high rankings from multiple outlets including ESPN and DraftScout.com all predicting he'd be a first or second round pick.
He was snapped up in the draft on 10th overall selection by Kansas City Chiefs after leading all NCAA Division I FBS players in passing yards (5,052) and total touchdowns (53).

When he's not leading the Kansas City Chiefs to victory, Mahomes takes some time for himself by enjoying two of his favourite pastimes - collecting sneakers and playing golf. Since 2020 he's been seen at the American Century Championship and The Match alongside Josh Allen. Unfortunately, they were beaten by NFL greats Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.
In 2019 Mahomes founded The 15 and the Mahomies Foundation which is dedicated to improving children’s lives through a variety of initiatives such as health awareness, wellness, and providing resources for under-served communities.
Due to his ankle injury sustained against Jacksonville, and despite still managing to power Kansas City past Cincinnati and Philadelphia en route to their Super Bowl LVII victory, he will be spending some valuable time resting and rehabilitating his injury in preparation for the start of the off-season training.
Men's Journal got the inside scoop on how Bobby Stroupe crafted a training system to maximise Mahomes' unique athleticism, using WHOOP data and specific exercises tailored to get him strong, fit, focussed and ready for the NFL Season. It's clear that this critical relationship has been integral in powering one of American football’s greatest talents towards championship glory!
When questioned about the injury after the Super Bowl, Mahomes' gave an emphatic response: "The only thing that might take a hit is my golf game, so I have to take a few weeks off of that."
Although he played through the Super Bowl with discomfort, Mahomes confidently declared that the issue won't have any long-term effect on his preparations for next season.
Mahomes commented: ‘We will continue the rehab, continue the treatment that we were doing and just give it some rest, trying to make sure that when we get to OTAs (Organised Team Activities), I'm ready to go.’
